THE MAGNIFICENT LIFE OF MARCEL PAGNOL
after "The Triplets of Belleville" and "The Illusionist"
Paris, 1955 - Marcel PAGNOL is in his sixties and has just put an end to a prolific career in movies to return to his youthful passion for theatre. But his two most recent plays were both terrible failures. Doubting himself and the public’s interest for his work, he wonders if he shouldn’t make way for younger talents…
During a dinner party, the editor-in-chief of Ellemagazine commissions from Pagnol a weekly literary account of his childhood, his Provence, first loves…. And a few days later, a messenger from Elle comes to his house to pick up the first pages of his account, which Pagnol hurries to write, only to realize that his own childhood memories escape him.
That’s when, as if by magic, the child he once was – young Marcel – appears before him. Thanks to this child, he is able to return to the past and relive and remember the events and encounters that marked his life and made him the man he did become.
